Agenda

  • Be sure to visit our vendor fair, where you’ll have the chance to connect with local organizations and companies dedicated to supporting the T1D community. Learn about the latest products and resources. You’ll also have the opportunity to stop by the Breakthrough T1D Hub, where you can learn about different ways to get involved, connect with others, and make a meaningful impact in advancing T1D awareness and research.

  • Dr. Rodica Busui, Professor and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Clinical Nutrition, Director of the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, and the Jordan Schnitzer Endowed Chair in Diabetes at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), will share her expertise. Gain valuable insights from Dr. Busui’s research and learn about the latest advancements shaping the future of type 1 diabetes care.
  • This insightful and heartfelt panel discussion is tailored for families with children recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The session brings together a diverse group of parents, caregivers, and adults living with T1D who will share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Whether you’re looking for practical tips or emotional support, this session offers a safe space to ask questions and connect with others who understand the journey.

  • Join local T1D clinical research experts and patients for an insightful discussion on the pivotal role clinical trials play in advancing T1D treatments. This session will highlight how trial participation drives life-changing breakthroughs and shapes the future of T1D care. Attendees will also learn about current local clinical trial opportunities for both youth and adults living with T1D.

  • Drs. Tweet and Harris, both diabetes psychologists, will talk through the psychosocial aspects of living with diabetes focusing on the most common challenges including diabetes burnout, diabetes distress, and maintaining diabetes self-management. They will walk the attendees through both the psychosocial challenges as well as the practical strategies for both combatting and overcoming these challenges.

  • McKenna McKee, a 13-time national champion cyclist living with type 1 diabetes and a proud Vancouver native, will inspire with her incredible journey. She’ll share how the power of community has shaped her success, and how she doesn’t let T1D get in the way of her dreams. McKenna is excited to be a part of the Community Summit and share her message that “strength is not measured by what we are faced with, but by how we rise above it.”
