2016 Breakthrough T1D One Walk, OKC Family Team Spotlight: Eskimo Josie

Who’s one of the leading teams for the #JDRFOneWalk #OklahomaCity for fundraising? Eskimo Josie, that’s who! There’s still plenty of time to get your team to the top of the fundraising leaderboard. Make sure to follow the tips for fundraising success in your Participant Center. https://tinyurl.com/jdrfonewalkokc

Here is a little bit about Josie, written by her mother, Melissa Reed Fontenot and their reason for fundraising in the Breakthrough T1D One Walk Oklahoma City this year:

Josie is five years old and was just diagnosed on 10/23/15. We have found that the more we make ourselves a part of the T1D community the more we learn and the more friends we make. T1D sucks, it’s as simple as that, whether you are a person living with it or a parent or caregiving taking care of someone, it takes up a big portion of your life. It’s geeky but I love the Dumbledore quote, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” Being a part of the local Breakthrough T1D has been that light for our family. Josie is so excited to get to attend events with other kids who are just like her. Being in a network of other parents who understand what I am going through and are there to answer questions and show their support has been priceless. We decided to do a team for Josie this year because we want to raise awareness about T1D. We want to aid in the research of new equipment and medicine to make managing diabetes simpler. Most of all we are walking to raise money so that someday their might be a cure. We walk to honor Josie and all those who live with T1D each day. My hope for Josie is that she will get to see that in her lifetime.

Join Josie and her family in fundraising for the 2016 #JDRFOneWalk #OklahomaCity to find a cure for #T1D. Be an inspiration to all of those living with, and affected by #T1D! Josie’s Journey with Type 1 Diabetes
