Fund A Cure with Caryn Green & Doug Neway | Breakthrough T1D Orlando Gala 2025

About Caryn Green & Doug Neway

Dear Friends and Family,

This time of year, we reach out to you, our wonderfully generous and caring friends and family, to attend and/or donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  Every year you astound us with your support.  This year, we’re not asking you to donate to JDRF!  That’s because, like Twitter, they’ve undergone a name change and have evolved to become Breakthrough T1D.  I think the reasons for the name change are varied.  Originally focused on finding a cure, this organization has expanded to find breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D.  Also, as we are finding out, Juvenile Diabetes does not just affect children.

Our daughter, Taylor is now 22 and just started her career at KPMG and is now a member of the annual gala committee herself.  Many of you have been a part of our quest to fund a cure for Type 1 Diabetes since Taylor was first diagnosed 20 years ago!  Our family is so gratified to be reminded of the love, support and generosity that you have shown to us.  At the same time, it’s painful to ask for your support again.  We prefer to deal with our obstacles on our own, but this disease is bigger than just our efforts can manage.  We receive several calls throughout the year from friends and strangers with news of someone being recently diagnosed with T1D.  The Center for Disease Control estimates that over 27.5 million people will have this disease by 2030.  It’s a safe bet that Taylor may not be the only type 1 diabetic that you’ll know.

Funding research through Breakthrough T1D is our best option to prevent new diagnoses as well as provide better treatments that improve glucose control, reduce the daily burden of T1D by simplifying the management of the disease, prevent long term complications and ultimately find a cure for T1D.

The Northern Florida Chapter of Breakthrough T1D will host their 20th Anniversary Greater Orlando on November 2, 2024, at The Waldorf Astoria. This year’s fundraising gala theme centers around A Garden in Time, which will include a formal dinner, a cocktail party, entertainment, a silent auction, and a live auction. For type 1 families, like ours, this is so much more than an opportunity to contribute to our community, it’s about extending the lives and quality of life of our loved ones. We invite you to share our passion to fund research to cure type 1.

Thank you all once again!  Your kindness, generosity and commitment to this cause are so appreciated.  We couldn’t ask for better people in our lives.  The link for you to donate to Fund a Cure this year where 100% of your donation goes to research is above.

With gratitude,
Caryn Green & Doug Neway
