Intern at our Chapter this Spring!

in

Join Breakthrough T1D New Jersey Metro & Rockland County Chapter as an intern this spring. Our Development Internship is designed with you in mind.

Our Spring 2019 Development Intern supports the overall event planning and implementation for the chapter’s major fundraising events – One Dream Gala and One Walk. You’ll provide direct and crucial support to the Development Department’s efforts to increase type 1 diabetes (T1D) awareness, funding and participation in the chapter.

What can you expect?

Our Development Intern will assist the department with:

  • The coordination of event logistics
  • Day-of-event preparation
  • Communication to event participants, including social, PR, stories and more
  • Securing in-kind donations, such as auction items and prizes
  • The development of marketing materials for events

You’ll also have a chance to:

  • Support the recruitment and engagement of event participants and volunteers
  • Research and identify community and corporate groups and organizations
  • Strengthen your time management and professional skills
  • Make professional and personal connections within the nonprofit field and the T1D community

Development Interns will work out of the New Jersey Metro & Rockland County Chapter office (Woodbridge, NJ) for a minimum of 10-15 hours per week.

Interested? Here’s what we need from you:

  • An interest in event planning, marketing, communications or philanthropy
  • Great communication skills, including writing, proof reading, and speaking
  • Must have the ability to perform various administrative duties, including talking on the phone
  • Proficient use of the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet research skills

 These skills are a bonus:

  • Graphic designs skills, anywhere from Canva to Adobe

We don’t expect you to know everything, though. The Development Department provides training and orientation, so it’s OK if you don’t know a lot about the chapter or T1D. We want our interns to succeed, so you’ll also receive clearly defined department priorities and personal responsibilities as well as ongoing support and supervision.

Don’t forget, this is an educational, unpaid internship. It’s designed to educate and allow college students to be hands-on with special events for a global nonprofit organization with major fundraising events.

One more thing about us: Breakthrough T1D is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Breakthrough T1D is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our ultimate goal is to find a cure for T1D, but along the way we are funding therapies that will lessen the burden of living with the disease. Breakthrough T1D exists for the millions of children, adults and families affected by T1D. The Development Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of chapter fundraising events.
