Date: Thursday, December 14th (2nd Thursday of every month)
Place: Home of Lisa Johnson – for address please contact Anna Raur at 402-397-2873 or araur@BreakthroughT1D.org.
Time: 6:30pm—8:00pm
Activity/Speaker:

  • Lisa & George Johnson, in partnership with the Empower1 teens, will be working on the art piece that will be auctioned off at the Breakthrough T1D Promise Gala on February 24th.

IMPORTANT: If you plan on attending & participating in the art project, please see below:

  • George would like everyone (teens) in the group to text or email him photos – cell phone quality is perfect or whatever is easiest.
    • The photos should represent diabetes to them.  He is looking to have all kinds of different photos so they should use their imagination.  They can send him as many as they would like.  It could be bruised or bloody fingers or port/injection site; a ladder, stairs, treadmill or something representing highs and lows or the craziness of keeping up with diabetes; candy, cake or donuts that they don’t get to eat as much as they’d like; their pump or syringes and other supplies; obviously there are positive images as well … perfect numbers, a smiling face, etc.  Whatever they come up with.
    • He’ll make sure to use at least one from each person who sends one (one photo is fine but he’ll be glad to get more).
    • We are asking for a pretty quick turn around on this so George has time to manipulate them and create collages in Photoshop.
  • Project overview: George will take the photos and put them into several different collages using Photoshop.  We will print the collages and, at the meeting on the 14th,  we will have an 8 1/2” x 11”  collage for each member to work on.  They will be encouraged to draw symbols/images or write words on the collage.  From there, George will use these and put it together mounted onto one big canvas or, he may take their images and words and use those ideas to paint on top of the big collage himself.
