Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) Mid-Atlantic is excited to offer virtual and in-person meet ups and educational events to support our local T1D community. We offer T1D support and networking programs for newly diagnosed families and individuals, parents of children with T1D, and adults with T1D, as well educational sessions on research, advocacy, virtual fundraising, and more. T1D Virtual Connections for Newly Diagnosed: 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM
Join your T1D community for a virtual meet & greet to connect with Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) Mid-Atlantic volunteer leaders and other newly diagnosed families. Get advice, tips, and support from others and learn more about local events, programs, and research. Contact Carrie Zager, czager@breakthroughT1D.org or 703-489-2183 for additional information. Children are welcome to attend however the conversation is geared towards parents/caregivers.
Bridging the Gap – T1D Teen Connections Group
Teens ages 13-18 with T1D are invited to join these quarterly virtual calls to connect with other teens and talk openly about the challenges and triumphs of living with T1D. Contact Jess Allston for more information. Upcoming dates: November 13, February 12, May 14.
Type 1 Diabetes Peer Support Group
Are you living with T1D or parenting a child with T1D? Join us for an informal conversation to share information and connect with others in the T1D community. Hampton Roads T1D Parents Coffee Chat (IN PERSON)
Join other T1D families for an informal meet-up the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Cafe Stella in Norfolk. Upcoming dates: September 17, October 15, November 19, December 17.
Greater Blue Ridge Area T1D Support Group (IN-PERSON)
This support group meets at Carilion Children’s at Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke, VA and is open to anyone living with or affected by T1D. Youth activities and childcare are available. Each meeting will feature a special guest speaker or topic. Sign up to be added to the support group mailing list. Upcoming dates: September 16, October 15, December 4, January 16, February 10, March 18, May 14, June 16.
Greater Blue Ridge Women with T1D Support Group (IN-PERSON)

Ask the Therapist Virtual Series: 1st Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM ET / 8:00 AM PT
Joanne Robb, a marriage and family therapist and mother of three – two of whom live with T1D – wants to help families gain the skills and knowledge they need to address the mental health impact and toll T1D takes on the entire family. Bring your questions and meet others in the T1D community for this informal call.
