Hi Breakthrough T1D Families, Supporters, and Friends:

On behalf of Breakthrough T1D, we would like to inform you that applications for the 2025 Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador Program are now open! The YA Program teaches children and teens to advocate for and raise awareness of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in their community. This program is made up of children living with type 1 diabetes, ranging from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

We are excited to announce that the 2025 Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador Program applications are now open! The YA program is for children living with type 1 diabetes, from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

As a Youth Ambassador for the Michigan and Northern Ohio chapter, your child/teen will serve as the face of the chapter and the heart of our mission. Their story and overall participation in this program will play a critical role in connecting your local community to Breakthrough T1D. Throughout the year, the Youth Ambassador will gain confidence in sharing their T1D story, and further develop both leadership skills and tools for collaborating with peers–all while advancing the mission of Breakthrough T1D.

Youth Ambassadors Requirements:

• Between the ages of 5 – 18 years (Kindergarten – Grade 12)
• Have a positive outlook on life and diabetes
• Commit to the annual term (January 1 – December 31)
• Volunteer a minimum of 5 hours to support JDRF programs and/or events
• Attend/participate in a minimum of 4 JDRF engagements, including 2 required activities:
  • National Virtual Meet-up
  • Breakthrough T1D Walk
• Attend Youth Ambassador Orientation in January, as scheduled by the chapter
• Commit to a $1,000 fundraising minimum for Walk
