My name is Abby and I am nine.  I was diagnosed only a year ago and am a new face to T1D.  I love to Irish Step Dance, play basketball, and be with my friends.  Having T1D is something that is on my mind all the time, day and night.  While I am like most kids, I do have to be more careful with the foods I eat and watch myself when I am active.  Often, I need to stop what I am doing to make sure that my sugars are okay.  This is hard because I need to sit out and watch everyone else have a good time.  I have to be more aware of my body at such a young age.

Breakthrough T1D is an amazing organization for kids like me.  My first walk was last year and it was fun!  It made me feel like I wasn’t alone.  I was excited to see all of the people who want a cure for T1D.  While this has been a tough year, I know Breakthrough T1D will be there for me every step of the way.
