About

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some truly incredible people who live with type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D is a chronic autoimmune disease. This means that it doesn’t go away. Anyone can be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at any age, though it usually is diagnosed in childhood or adolescence.

In T1D, the body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is an essential hormone that helps the body turn food into energy. People living with type 1 diabetes must take insulin by injection or insulin pump to survive.

This year, I am fundraising not only for my friends but for the 8.7 million people currently living with T1D, and for the estimated 17.4 million who may be affected by 2040.The T1D community has shown me the strength, resilience, and hope it takes to face this disease every day. Their stories have inspired me to take action, and now I’m asking for your help as I fundraise for an event that is close to my heart: Breakthrough T1D Gala: Hats On for Hope, Racing Toward Breakthroughs.
